Moira
I saw some discussion on the name Moira.
Guess what I'm a Moira!! This is my addition to the discussion. The name derivation from my understanding isn't Greek, that is a different root and a different name altogether. Moira is Celtic and comes from the Gaelic adjective mhor (can be spelled different ways depending whether it is Irish, Scottish or Breton - is it Cornish too?)which means "great or "big." Any physical map of Scotland, Brittany and Ireland will give you lots of examples. It became very popular in Scotland/Ireland in the 1950s. I think because various famous people had the name. Moira Shearer was born in Dumfermline, Scotland. It can also be spelled Moyra but us Moira's are inclined to classify that as an affectation. But I suppose you can spell it how you want it.Hope that is helpful
