Alfons
I have a question about this name. I know a lot of Polish dictionaries define this as slang for a pimp, but a lot of Polish name websites still list Alfons as a name and not all of them list the slang meaning. Also, there seem to be men with the name who postdate the publication of Dumas' story (which seems to have been popular in Poland). The most recent famous Polish bearer on the Polish Wikipedia was born around 1947.One Polish name site I found the name on says the name is "quite uncommon" due to the association, and Wiktionary's listing on the name doesn't have any usage notes. Is the name Alfons considered taboo in Poland? Did it meet the same fate that the name Perpetua did in Italy (i.e. rendered unusable by a slang association)?
