The name is decreasing in popularity, but I would like to know why Ashley was pretty much THE name of the 80’s?

Though it was certainly already popular, its final push into the top ten coincided with the introduction of the character Ashley Abbott on the popular soap opera "The Young and the Restless". So there may have been some Hollywood feedback loop effect there.
