Howdy Pam,
Nothing personal against your husband or his family (whom I'm sure are all fine people), but I hate the name "Charles". Also the nn "Chuck". No particular good reason in either case. "Charlie" is okay, tho. "Chaz" is for fudgepackers only.
There's lots of "Trey"'s in the South (all meaning Da Turd), and I hate that nn as well. "Trip", on the other hand, is okay by me. (Wasn't Trip Hawkins the boy-wonder founder of Electronic Arts? Great PC game company.)
Nanaea often gives good advice, but she's never parented two kids (even one). I have. The correct response, if people ask him, "How did you get a nickname like 'Trip'?", is to bellow, "BITE ME, YOU NOSY ASSHOLE!!" repeatedly until the person in question goes away. Works every time.
