Dimo and Rachel recently added Jabir to their family. Jabir is a young Malaysian boy who was living on the streets. Rachel began inviting him in for meals, and soon, the boy didn't leave. Dimo and Rachel discussed it and decided to adopt the boy, officially. Jabir is about nine years old and, though he is skinny, doesn't seem to have any longlasting negative effects from his time on the streets. He won't say much about his early life, but is very affectionate toward the girls. He especially adores Tali, whom he pays particular attention to.

This year, Dimo took a pay cut--not that he was making a whole lot before, but the church was unable to continue paying his current salary. While it makes life a little more difficult, Rachel is determined to provide for their young family. Jabir is a great help--often taking on odd jobs for people to make some extra money, which he gives to Rachel. He tells her that, as long as he belongs to her family, he will share anything he makes. Mari, Missy, and Tali are rambunctious little girls who spend their time playing and watching Rachel sew. Mari and Missy chatter away while Tali watches. She doesn't speak, but engages animatedly with her triplet sisters in gestures and facial expressions. Surprisingly, Mari and Missy can translate for her accurately. Rachel worries that Tali will never communicate for herself, but Dimo assures her that she'll be fine.

He was killed in an outburst of violence in the marketplace that killed three others and injured nearly a dozen people. Rachel has been trying to help the girls, especially Ratu and Tali, to deal with Jabir's death. Dimo doesn't say much, but Rachel knows that Jabir's death has affected him too--in the way he interacts with the girls and insists on traveling to the market with them.

After spending six months planting a church in a very rural area of Malaysia, Dimo decided to move the family there--taking another pay cut in return. Fortunately, Rachel is able to trade her sewing/repair/alteration skills for some of their food and other daily necessities. Dimo and Rachel were so busy with life that they didn't pay much attention when Rachel began feeling more tired and run down than usual. Six weeks later, Rachel began to suspect her problems were related to something other than fatigue. When she went to the doctor, she was surprised to learn that, not only was she pregnant, but she was having twins! Jonathan and Wynne were born at 36 weeks, 6 days and spent two weeks in the NICU before going home. This brought back a lot of memories for Dimo and Rachel from when their twins were born. Ratu watched everything with great interest--then declared that she wants to help babies get healthy as well. Mari, Missy, and Tali have shown great interest in the new babies, though they are often more of a hindrance than a help.
