Re: 1920’s America congrats (part 1)
H [43] Nathaniel David Buckley (surgeon)
W [40] Lydia Grace (Devereux) BuckleyS [15] Stephen Alexander Buckley
D/S [9] Phoebe Charlotte Buckley / Julian Mark BuckleyNathaniel grew up in a military family. The Buckleys were not known for their marksmanship or bravery on the battlefield however. They were surgeons and medics. As Nathaniel's father oft said, "We aren't fighting men, son. We're the men that keep them fighting."The Buckleys were also apparently rebels by blood. They had been Patriots during the War of Independence and Confederates during the War Between the States. Proud Southerners, the Buckleys were. Nathaniel didn't particularly care about his geneology, or that most if not all of his American ancestors had lived in Virginia up until him. He simply wanted to become a surgeon. Fascinated with human anatomy from an early age, it had been Nathaniel's lifelong dream not to follow his father in mere doctoring, but to wield a scalpel with skill. And so he did. He moved to Maryland when the time came to continue his education, and attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine. While there, he met a charming local lady from old money, Miss Lydia Grace. Nathaniel courted her like all good young gentleman do, and in a few years time received Mr. Devereux's reluctant blessing to marry Lydia.Nathaniel works at the hospital and has ever since his internship there. He and Lydia live close to the Devereux land with their three children, Stephen, Phoebe, and Julian. Lydia, an intellectual at heart with awkward motherly instinct, takes as best care of the children as she can, though it was quite tough in the early days. Stephen takes after his father with a great interest in medicine, though he does seem a bit squeamish. This, coupled with his intellectual bend, would make him greatly suited for research or teaching.Phoebe is a wild child, possessing neither of her parents' great decorum and subtlety. In this she is a great deal like her paternal grandfather. Julian, too, tends to be brazen and bold, but is much tamer than his sister. His great love is chess.
