Alice, having been hardly used as a baby name for 40 years, seems too crystallized, too image-loaded. It's like
Mary, in my mind.
Alice in Wonderland, so arch and antique.
Alice from the
Brady Bunch, matronly and dowdy.
Alice the waitress from the TV show. Go
Ask Alice.
Alice Cooper. It's so 20th century.
Alison still seems fresher and more versatile to me, as it's fairly frequent on women and girls of all ages. And it has kept a fairly polished image where I live, since it was never extremely popular. I'd much rather be named
Alison if I were born today.
