I think this was probably the most popular name amongst my contemporaries growing up (80s baby, grew up in the 90s). Some were just
Katie, and some were
Katherine or a variant called
Katie. I don't recall any Caitlins or Kaitlyns that I knew called
Katie but there were a fair few Kathleens.
I liked it then and I like it now. Its problem was overuse, but that still doesn't keep me from finding it adorable. For a long time, I preferred
Kate. I probably still do, but I'm kind of cooling on it. If I had a
Katherine, I might even call her
Katie rather than
Kate these days.
