When I was growing up, Ashley was a boys' name. It wasn't until the very late 1980s that it arrived here as a name for girls, although it's become very popular since then. Ashleigh and Ashlee are more popular than Ashley for girls, and Ashley still gets used for boys.
I don't like it on girls and don't mind it on boys, but really I'm ambivalent about it either way.
