I like them best in this order:
Madeleine (love the spelling),
Linnea and
Marie. I consider
Madeleine to be a classic and don't necessarily think she'd be called
Maddie. My dh has always been called
James (never
Jim). In addition, there's an even less likelihood of today's children being given nns. Oh, it still happens, of course, however, it's not a given the way it practically was in the 50s and 60s.
If you're concerned about
Madeleine's popularity,
Linnea is lovely and fresh. I've never known a single one.
