It’s VERY tied to the Matrix in my mind. I also think you’d have a hard time getting the pronunciation you want. Absolutely nobody would ever say it right the first time, and a slew of lazy, stubborn or oblivious people would never get it right no matter how long you know them.
My boss is one of those people. He just calls everybody by whatever variant of their name is easiest for him to pronounce and remember. There is no language barrier. He calls my coworker Padraigh “Patrick”. He calls my other coworker Claudia “CLOD-ee-ah” no matter how many times she says “CLOUD-ee-ah”. He calls a client, Beth, “Bethany” all the time even though he’s been told time and again it’s short for Elizabeth. There are many more examples, and he’s far from the only person I know who does this.
