Yeah I wasn't thinking terminology I was thinking it was just because of the sound of music and I thought that was way too much of a stretch.

Due to its etymology, it was frequently used by Nazis - Operation Edelweiss was a German plan to occupy the Caucasus and the Baku oil fields during WW2, it was the name of a Luftwaffe bomber wing, and, most famously, an anti-partisan unit operating in Slovakia.
