Meaning & History
Icelandic form of the Old Norse name Ásheiðr or Ǣshæiðr, which was derived from the elements áss "god" and heiðr "brightness" (compare Ragnheiðr; alternatively, the element heiðr could have meant "heath, field" (compare Heidrun) or "honour"). Its use in modern times has apparently been influenced by the Old Norse word ást meaning "love, affection".
