Meaning & History

From Sino-Vietnamese 嫗姬 (Âu Cơ) meaning "lady of the Âu Việt", the name of a group of ancient tribes that inhabited northern Vietnam and southern China in the 3rd century BC. In Vietnamese mythology, Âu Cơ is a fairy deity and the wife of Lạc Long Quân. She is honoured as the mother of the modern Vietnamese people.
