In response to noisynora: In Arabic names, a double 'a' is not decorative; it is used to indicate the pronunciation of the name. In this case, Aamir is pronounced with the emphasis on the 'a' sound, whereas Amir is pronounced with the emphasis NOT on the 'a.'
