Means "horse victory". From the Carian ala 'horse' and banda 'victory'. In Greek mythology he was a Carian hero, son of Euippus and the naiad Callirrhoe, and through Callihrrhoe the grandson of the Titans Oceanus and Tethys. He founded the town of Alabanda in Caria, Anatolia (modern day Turkey) and after his death he was worshiped as a divinity by the townspeople. He is sometimes also known as Hipponicus.
