Latinized form of Greek Ἀλκαθόη (Alkathoê), which is derived from Greek αλκη (alke) "strength" and θοός (thoos) "swift, nimble". In Greek myth Alcathoe (or Alcithoe) was one of the Minyades, the three daughters of King Minyas of Orchomenus in Boeotia, Greece.
