My last name, Algor, comes from this name Algar or Alger. My ancestors when writing in script I guess wrote a bit fast and the A's and/or E's would look like O's there for Alger became Algar and then turned to Algor but I don't find Algor anywhere in any book or any text. Can't find any meaning or ethnicity related to it..it just doesn't exist but it's my legal last name. My family's last name back to the 15 or 16 hundreds I'm unsure, I'd have to take a look. I guess I'm asking for some help... Please anyone
HELLLPPPP! LOL PLEASE 🥺.
Sir Algar Howard, KCB, KCVO, MC, TD, (1880 – 1970) was a senior British Army officer and long-serving officer of arms at the College of Arms in London. He served as the Garter Principal King of Arms from 1944 to 1950 before retiring. He was the third consecutive Fitzalan Pursuivant of Arms Extraordinary to attain the highest rank at the College of Arms.
Algar Fleet-foot is an ancient king in the Belgariad and the Mallorean by David Eddings.
It sounds pretty much ancient. The guy could go by Al, but he'd still have an awkward, embarrassing full first name. Besides, Al sounds middle-aged at best.
This is a strong name, although slightly rough, and may even be described as gutteral. Although I wouldn't name a child this, it might well suit a character in a book.
