This is my name. German pronunciation: ahl-oh-ees. The 'S' is definitely pronounced.
This was my great grandfather's name. It was pronounced ah-loo-ee. The "s" was silent. My family is German and French and I was born in Germany as well.
I used this name for my son as a middle name/family name.
Watching a French documentary about Hitler's family and they're pronouncing it alo-WEES.
I always believed it to be pronounced to rhyme with "voice".
