Meaning & History

Used by Panamanian author Octavio Méndez Pereira for a character in his historical novel Núñez de Balboa, el tesoro de Dabaibe (1934), where it belongs to an indigenous princess who falls in love with the Spanish conquistador Vasco Núñez de Balboa. The derivation is uncertain; it is popularly claimed to be of indigenous American origin.
