Meaning & History

Name which means "a girl/woman who has fish like eyes" in Tamil. Derived from Tamil words அம் (am) "like", கயல் (kayal) "fish", கண்ணி (kanni) "eye of a girl/woman". அம் + கயல் + கண்ணி - அங்கயற்கண்ணி. This is the native name of the famous goddess in Madurai in Tamil Nadu, South India, which is now known as Minakshi Temple.
