The most notorius bearer of the name was Ante Pavelic, a Croatian fascist who arranged the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Jews, Serbs and Romas in the death camp Jasenovac during WW2.
I don't like this name. It sounds too short, similar to "anti-", and makes me think of the ghastly Ante Pavelic and his repugnant racial beliefs.
It's pronounced AHN-teh, not "anti"! And it's a beautiful name!

Also used in Sweden, originally in the northern part of the country, as short for Anton and Anders.
