My first thought was actually "So it's Marvel without the M?". -- I'd personally recommend going with alternative spellings if you want to avoid this association. Overall not a bad name, sounds more appropriate for a D&D character than a baby. Also, sounds (to me) like a potential modern equivalent to "Orville".
Means "wept over", other forms are : Arvell, Arvyl.
It's possibly a variant of the Welsh name Erfyl.
Arvel is Welsh meaning "wept over".
Having been born and raised in Wales, and being a first-language fluent Welsh speaker, this name doesn't lay quite right with me, as the letter 'V' doesn't exist in the Welsh language. Perhaps a more correct spelling of this name would be ArFel. [noted -ed]
