Asqar

Derived from the Kazakh noun қар (qar) meaning "snow", in reference to the snowy peaks of the mountains in southern Kazakhstan. Because of this reference, the name is sometimes also said to mean "the highest" or "summit".

Notable Kazakh bearers of this name include the prime minister Asqar Mamın (b. 1965), the deputy prime minister Asqar Jumaǵalıev (b. 1978) and the politician Asqar Myrzahmetov (b. 1962).

Uzbek form of the Arabic name Askar. This name is not to be confused with the Kazakh name Asqar, which is ultimately of Turkic origin.

A known bearer of this name is the Uzbek professional soccer player Asqar Jadigerov (b. 1980).
