In Italian, Baldo is not always a short form of masculine Germanic given names that contain the element 'bald' meaning "bold, brave". Sometimes it is also a short form of Baldassarre, which is the Italian form of Balthazar. See also:

I believe this is also a German name because of the last name Boldt.

It is not German because it is the Germanic name Baldo, like Albert, Robert and many others that are Germanic names. But Boldt can be a German variation of the Germanic name Baldo, like the Spanish variation Valdez that means the same.
