Bjarne Amdahl (1903-1968) was a Norwegian, pianist, orchestra conductor and a popular Entertainment Composer during the 20th Century. In Norway it's pronounced like Bj-AHR-NEH.

I've always heard it pronounced to rhyme with 'barney'.

I should probably mention the only time I've ever heard anyone called Bjarne was as a nickname FOR Barney, so it's not pronounced that way. Sorry, should have put that in the first time.
