The name 'Cabot' comes from the fifteenth century Italian explorer Giovanni Caboto who was commissioned by the Kingdom of England to discover North America. When Caboto arrived in England is name was changed to John Cabot to sound more English. The name also comes from the famous Cabot family who were very powerful in the Massachusetts Bay area around present day Boston.
