I don't really understand how this could come from Caoilfhionn.-aoi- is always -ee- in Irish so Caoilfhionn could only be pronounced with an -ee-sound. It couldn't be -ay-.And I don't really see how the first syllable in Caelan could be -ee- (kee).The anglicization for Caoilfhionn should be Keelin. [noted -ed]
This name is the Scottish form of "Nicholas".
