My name is Kynwynne, my dad changed the spelling so people could say it. They still get it wrong. There are a few other variations of the name like Kynwynn all pronounced Kine-Wyn or Kine-wen. I love my name but most people call me Kye.
I named my daughter Ceinwen, very rare here in Australia, not imagining anyone would have any difficulty pronouncing the name but she gave up correcting people from using ‘sen-wen’ to the correct way of ‘kine-wen’ and she now hates her name. If I’d thought it would be such a problem I wouldn’t have chosen it. Having grown up with a difficult name myself, I’m disappointed with myself for having chosen a name she isn’t proud of because of other people. I still love the name but it isn’t mine to live with and not enough parents ever consider that aspect when naming their children.
Such a lovely unique name that you don't hear very often and the pronunciation Seen-Wen is lovely.
I've had this name for 65 years and still people cannot pronounce it properly. I have to pronounce or spell it out for them.
Ceinwen is the name of a character in Richard Llewllyn's classic novel, 'How Green Was My Valley'.
Ceinwyn is the Princess of Powys in Bernard Cornwell's Arthurian saga "The Warlord Chronicles".
Ceinwen is my given name. I have to put up with people pronouncing and spelling it completely wrong, and so I have to spell or sound it out to people all the time. I pronounce it as KINE-wen, although I think it sounds lovely the other way too. It's such a rare name here (I'm in Australia), but I wouldn't have it any other way. Over the years I've come to love it as just being a part of who I am. :)
In South Wales Ceinwen is pronounced KINE-WEN, (in N.Wales, it is pronounced CAIN-WEN). However way it is pronounced, we always get complimented on the name. It is my granddaughter's and this name was chosen because of its meaning.
Another meaning of this name is "beautiful/pure and precious gem".
Ceinwen is pronounced CAIN-wen.
This name does live up to part of it's meaning: lovely!
