Meaning & History

Transferred use of the surname Curley or else from an English surname of Norman origin, which may have been from a French place name or perhaps from a nickname meaning "curlew (a bird)" (see also Curly). It was used by John Steinbeck for a character in his novella 'Of Mice and Men' (1937).
