Meaning & History

Derived from Mongolian даваа (davaa) meaning "Monday" or "mountain pass, threshold" and жав (jav) meaning "salvation, deliverance"

Probably of Tibetan Buddhist origin, meaning "moon of deliverance." The Mongolian definition of "Monday" for даваа (davaa) derives from Tibetan ཟླ་བ (zla ba) "moon, month; Monday". This is likely a reference to the bodhisattva "Moon of Deliverance" described in the Flower Garland Sutra of the Mahayana School of Buddhism.
