Sorrow and pain.

My grandmother is named Delores. She's a very strong willed, confident, straight-forward woman. Honestly she is the only person I have known with this name. So when I hear this name I think of a strong woman that isn't afraid to be herself and take the reigns of a situation. Although I would not name a daughter this it is good for those who want a strong sounding no nonsense name.
Yuck.
Delores origin is French. It is the feminine of Delore. Delore pronounced with long E sound. Meaning De (the) lore (story). I.E. the story teller. I have five French generations with that as a first name - Delore male; female - Delores. It does not mean sorrow or pain or suffering.
Delores cannot mean "storyteller" in French because the French for "story" is recit and French for "storyteller" is conteur. Lore is Middle English and derived from the Old English word lar. On the other hand Delores in Spanish means "pain" and the name Delores is short for La Virgen María de los Dolores, "Virgin Mary of Sorrows."
Sounds like an old grandma name. Kind of boring.
