I prefer the spelling Devin because this spelling reminds me of the word devious.
Never met a girl named Devon, but this is a good name in my opinion. I really don't get why people are dogging on this name.
I can picture this name on a Tomboy.
Very unpretty.
I'll always think of the county Devon when hearing this name - It's still a nice name but my mind will always go to the location first. At least Devon is a lovely place!
I love this name! I love that it's gender neutral.
This is just so awful. The spelling and everything!
Horrible.
I like it for a boy, but not for a girl. It’s way too masculine.
I don't think it's polite to say us girls have ruined the name Devon. I think it's a beautiful name, and everyone deserves to use it, whatever gender. Maybe some boys believe parents shouldn't have called their baby girls Devon, but the parents always chose the right name, masculine or not. Thanks for reading this.
I thought it would be pronounced with the emphasis on the "O".
This is not a girl's name. It's a boy's name. It is not unisex. People have spoiled this name just like they did with Dylan and Shawn.
This seems to be the truly unisex spelling of the name - I've never actually met anyone with this spelling, but I can recall two famous / semi-famous people with this name: Devon Aoki (female) and Devon Sawa (male). In real life, I've known a Devin (male) and a Devan (female), the latter one of my closest friends. Devan does seem to be the most feminine spelling, in my opinion, and Devin's similarity to Kevin makes me think of it as being wholly masculine. But Devon is my favorite male spelling, though.
This is by far the prettiest spelling and most appropriate spelling of Devon. I think it looks gross spelled Devin. I also quite like this name more for a girl than a boy. But still a great unisex name. Might I add I don't like pronouncing this as "deh-VAWN" since that sounds pompous.
Devon is one of my best friends' names and I absolutely love it! Sadly, she doesn't feel the same way about it. I hope that she too can come to see the beauty in her name.
Devon is gorgeous for a boy, and also kind of cute for a girl. I like the nickname Dev.
Named our only daughter, Devon Pauline. We chose to be surprised by her gender at birth and picked out Devin Paul for a boy name. I think we first encountered the name as a female with the character Devon Adair on the television show "Earth 2." Even I am annoyed at how many times I've heard it pronounced "De Vaughn." The name has suited her well.
Just wanna say thanks to everyone who wrote that it is a pretty name because it's my name and I have hated it all my life. But seeing that other people like it makes it seem less icky to me. So thanks people of the internet, you have given me a bit of a confidence boost xxxx
I'm a girl, by the way!
My sister's name is Devon and sometimes people pronounce it wrong and a few times people have expected her to be a boy, but honestly it's pretty evenly split as far a unisex names go. I know 2 female Devons (my sister included), one male Devon, a female Devin, and a male Devin. It's a place name and in Old English it means poet, there isn't really a specific gender that those meanings have to be applied to.
My name is Devon, I am a girl. A very girly girl. (not a tomboy at all.)
When I was growing up I hated having "a boy name" and was made fun of a few times for it. So when we moved and I switched schools when I was 12, I started going by my middle name Christine (Christi). Now that I'm an adult and have been told many times that it's a beautiful name, I wish I would have stuck with it growing up. In my social life I still go by Christi but my legal name and what my family call me and always will, is Devon.
Looks too much like "Devil" for my taste.
This is my best friend's last name which makes me want to name a someday child that, either boy or girl.
I love this name. I grew up with a Devon. I have NEVER heard anyone pronounce it like De-Vawn. I also had a school friend who was a girl with this name, except her name was spelt Devyn. I like the name for both male and female. I also like that it's not very common. I have only met one Devon and one Devyn in my life.
I've always known Devon to be a male name. Personally I have known nearly a dozen people named Devon, all were men; until recently, I heard of a woman being named Devon, although I think it was spelled Devin. Either way, I will continue to think of it as man's name.
I think this is a really good name for males. Not so much for females, though. I could never picture it on a girl that wasn't rather tomboyish.
I guess it's a cute name.
My name is Devon (I'm male), and though I've come to enjoy having this name, I've personally always been frustrated by people calling me "De-vahn", as said by other reviewers. But while others have commented that some say it's a boys' name, the criticism that I've always received is that it's a girls' name.
This is my name (I'm a girl) and the only problems I have are people pronouncing it De-VAWN or telling me it's a boy's name. As to it being the name of a place in England, if there can be an airhead named Paris, why can't people be named Devon?
I've never really liked this name for girls, mainly because I had a close friend named Devon, who was a boy.
I used to think this was a pretty cool name for girls, but I've realized that the name only suits certain types of girls, namely, the rather androgynous ones, or the indie rocker types. The name wouldn't suit any really feminine women, and it doesn't sound all that edgy and spunky on an aging indie rocker type either. I think the name simply grows better on men.
It strongly resembles the word "devil."
Technically, the 'name' Devon is just a place, so it would be like naming your child Cornwall or Derbyshire.
It's a very strong name - I had a best friend with this name.
I think this is a great name, it belongs to me! It's taken me years to like it but now I think it's beautiful. The only down side is that lots of people say to me 'Isn't that a boys name?' The real way you spell the boys name is Devin.
I think this is a beautiful name. One of my great friends has this name. I think it is great for boys or girls, but I think that it is more unique when used as a girl's name. But I guess if you use it as a boy's name, then that's okay too.
I think this is a very strong name, for both boys and girls. I love it!
I think this is a very pretty name for a little girl.
