It's cool, I picture Marlene Dietrich. German suave in a smoking jacket.
Dietrich von Hildebrand was a famous Catholic philosopher who was sentenced to death by the Third Reich for his vocal anti-Nazism. He fled Germany in 1938 and spent two years in hiding in France. He escaped to the US in 1940, whereupon he spent the rest of his life writing and teaching at Fordham University in NY.
Dietrich Von Bern aka Dietrich the Great was a very famous German Knight of history and legend, king of the Ostrogoths, Regent of the Visigoths, a Patricius of the Roman Empire, and first King of Italy.
I quite like the name myself, quite strong.
"Dietrich von Lohengrin" from the "Trinity Blood" series (clearly) has this name.
Pronounced DEET-rikh. [noted -ed]
Listen to the German pronunciation of Dietrich here:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a noted German theologian and opponent of the Nazis.
Marlene Dietrich was a famous actress.
