Meaning & History

Derived from Greek Διός (Dios) meaning "of Zeus" combined with the Greek verb πείθω (peitho) meaning "to persuade, to convince" as well as "to obey, to yield to" and "to believe, to trust (in)".

This name was borne by an Athenian general from the 4th century BC, who is thought to have been the father of the poet Menander.
