I was born and raised in Hungary where Éva is a very popular name. It’s the Hungarian version of Eva. Common nicknames are Évi, Évike, Évica.

With 172 739 bearers, Éva is the 4th most common feminine name in Hungary. (01/01/2016).
I have seen this used as a variant of Ava, pronounced the same.
I just named my new baby girl Éva. I love this spelling because it is more exotic and sophisticated than spelling it Ava. Unfortunately, we couldn't use the acute accent over the E for her Social Security registry, so her social security card says Eva (without the accent, which I would naturally pronounce EE-va, not AY-va). Her birth certificate says Éva, though. I hope she doesn't have too hard of a time explaining her name to people when she's older. I'm still trying to decide what nickname to call her - Evie, or Vivi.
