This is not pronounced as ie-LEEN or IE-leen, that pronunciation is most definitely incorrect. Yes, it is sometimes anglicized as Eileen (in the case of Eibhlín Dubh Ní Chonaill) but anglicizations are often not pronounced exactly the same as the original name. The BH isn't silent in Irish so it could never sound like ie-LEEN or IE-leen. EI doesn't sound like IE in Irish! The Irish BH sounds like V. EI can be pronounced two ways depending on the accent: AY or EH.Eibhlín is either AYV-leen or EHV-leen.
Looks odd but it's okay.
I originally learned this name from a book of names, where they come from, meaning, and pronunciation. They said it was pronounced EHV-lin and I kind of like that better than the options on this website, although it is a gorgeous name no matter what.
This spelling is pretty. My name is spelled Eileen though. I also like this spelling but outside of Ireland people would not be able to really spell it.
Pronunciation: http://forvo.com/search/Eibhlin/
It can me pronounced ie-LEEN, EV-leen EV-e-leen or AYV-leen. It can also be spelled Eibhilín.
This name is actually the Irish form of Eileen.
Aoibheann "pleasant, beautiful, radiant."
"Eibhlin a Ruan" was a 17th century love-song composed by the harpist Cearbhall O'Dalaigh who used it to persuade his beloved to elope with him on her wedding day. I think this name is gorgeous and classy.
Are you sure that the pronunciation isn't more like "EV-leen" or "AYV-leen"? [noted -ed]
This name is definitely pronounced Eve-lin or Ave-leen
