Meaning & History

Derived from the Greek adjective ἔκφαντος (ekphantos) meaning "shown forth, revealed", which consists of the Greek preposition ἐκ (ek) meaning "out of" as well as "outside, beyond" and the Greek adjective φαντός (phantos) meaning "visible". Also compare the related Greek verb ἐκφαίνω (ekphaino) meaning "to bring to light, to reveal".
