Meaning & History

Most likely a variant form of Eunike (see Eunice). However, it is also possible that this name is an independent name on its own, in which case it is derived from Greek ευ (eu) meaning "good, well" combined with Greek νείκη (neike) meaning "quarrel, wrangle, strife", which is ultimately derived from the Greek verb νεικέω (neikeo) meaning "to quarrel, to wrangle with".

This name was borne by a Bosporan queen from the 1st century AD.
