Meaning & History

Derived from Greek ευρυς (eurys) meaning "wide" combined with Greek σθενος (sthenos) meaning "strength". In Greek mythology, Eurystheus was a cousin of Heracles, king of the Mycenae and Tiryns in Argos. The goddess Hera had rushed his mother's labor, and delayed Heracles' birth out of jealousy.
