Comments (Meaning / History Only)

I might be biased because I am an Evren but for the love of god to everyone in the comments to this name and future readers - this name has NOTHING to do with "Evan", "Wrie", whatever other nicknames you think you might have for it... The Turkish "v" has no relation to the English "w" sound, Wrie sounds nothing like it! No, it is not pronounced Ewrin... It's Ev-ren, plain and simple, you can go on Google Translate and make the Turkish voice pronounce it. This is a Turkish name, obviously it is not going to "align" with the Anglophone users complaining about comparing it to other irrelevant names or how much more "girly" it actually is... Respect its origins, people. The name comes from the Old Turkic root, ebr- or ebir- ("to twist", "bend", "revolve" etc.). Combined with the suffix -en/-an, it literally translates to "(that) twists (things)", "(that) spins (things)" or "(that) revolves (around itself)" - hence, the universe. While it is an unisex name in origin, in modern Turkish, it is especially considered more masculine (even if not strictly so).
