Ewald Georg von Kleist (1700–1748) was a German jurist, Lutheran cleric, and physicist, who in 1745 invented the Kleistian jar (that could store electricity in large quantities) and became more commonly known as the Leyden jar.
I think this name is ugly, especially the "ew" part. (Sorry if your name is Ewald!)
Ewald is also used in Poland.
In regards to my previous comment, Ewald is not a Polish name; I was misled by two German Ewalds on the Polish soccer team of 1938.
This name sounds very dated.
Ewald sounds kind of cool to me.
