The Italian form was born by Italian royalty of the Savoy family who ruled Italy until 1946.
The German pronunciation is FEE-lee-bert. [noted -ed]
Filibert is also spelled as "Philibert". I know at least a man, about 40 years old, in the Netherlands whose name is spelled exactly that way and I heard it before and actually that spelling was my first thought of how it should be.
