The Gaelic name "Fionnáin" seems to be derived from Gaelic word "fionn, "which means "fair." This Gaelic name has been Anglicized as Finan and Fanning.
Saint Finan of Lindisfarne was successor to Saint Aidan. Saint Finan fell asleep in the Lord c. 661. In Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions, his day is celebrated February 17.
