This name is becoming increasingly popular in Brazil after internet influencers Christian Figueiredo and Zoo named their first son Gael. In fact, it was the 2nd most common name for baby boys in Sao Paulo in 2022 (https://www.arpensp.org.br/noticia/cartorios-de-sao-paulo-divulgam-ranking-de-nomes-–-agora-mutaveis-–-mais-registrados-em-2022) We pronounce it “ga-EHL” (similar to the French version).

I like this name, it's nice. It's a good balance between strong but not macho. It's cool.

There's a couple of well known women with this name (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ga%C3%ABl_(given_name)), and its inherent meaning is also unisex ("person of gaelic descent", "person who speaks gaelic", etc), so I believe it'd be correct to change the categorization to be marked as unisex. This would help people who are looking for unisex names.

The first person I think of with this name is actor, producer, director, and activist Gael García Bernal (b. 1978 in Guadalajara, Mexico). He's best known in the English-speaking world for his acclaimed performances in Y tu mamá también in 2001, which brought both him and his costar and childhood friend Diego Luna international attention, Pixar's Coco, and Mozart in the Jungle, for which he won a Golden Globe.

In the Philippines, here where I'm living right now, Gael is a shortened form of Gabriel. My cousin is called that way.
