Meaning & History

Means "rag" in Old Norse. In Norse mythology this is the name of a blood-stained hellhound (occasionally considered identical to Fenrir) who guards Hel's gate. In the Poetic Edda his howling heralds the coming of Ragnarök. In the Prose Edda he will fight Týr at Ragnarök and each will kill the other.
