Gladwyn Kingsley Noble (1894 – 1940) was an American zoologist who served as the head curator for the Department of Herpetology and the Department of Experimental Biology at the American Museum of Natural History. Noble is the taxon author of 20 new species of reptiles. A species of lizard, Anolis noblei, is named in his honor. Also, a subspecies of lizard, Sphaerodactylus darlingtoni noblei, is named in his honor.
I find Gladwyn an intriguing name - rare and hard to retain if mentioned in passing. However, even if the name is not immediately retained, it gives the impression that the name mentioned describes a person with brooding seductive eyes, an artist with moods, a person with a dark and deep personality. I know one guy with this name and probably I am just describing him. But I have to say the name simply fits the guy or said the other way around - the guy fits perfectly what I thought a guy bearing the name Gladwyn should be.
