Meaning & History

Guayota or Guaiota was the name given by the Guanches, ancient aborigines of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) to the main evil entity of their mythology according to the first historians of the Canary Islands.

The term, whose primary form could be wa-yewta, has been translated as "to strike", "to combat", or also more figuratively as "the Destroyer".
