This name is also used in The Netherlands, where it is less popular than Gustaaf (= the authentic Dutch form of Gustav) and even Gustav. Of all three, Gustaaf remains by far the most popular in The Netherlands: it is a top 1000 name, whereas both Gustaf and Gustav aren't. For Gustaf, there were less than 200 bearers total in 2010, whereas for Gustav there were more than 500 bearers total in 2010.Where newborns are concerned, however, all three names are quite dated. In at least the last 10 years, there were less than 10 of each born every year.
Two famous bearers:
- Cartoon cat Garfield is called Gustaf in Sweden.
- Carl XVI Gustaf, king of Sweden.
