Meaning & History

Means "joy" in Welsh. It has been used in Wales since the mid-19th century.

K.M. Sheard notes, 'Although Gwenydd has been in use pretty much as long as Gwyneth, its use since the latter part of the 19th century has almost certainly been down to the resemblance. Similarly, Gwenith - gwenith "wheat" - is also used.'
